Advanced Search Is Easy

Once you know the basics of Toronto.NET search, you might want to try Advanced Search, which offers numerous options for making your searches more precise and getting more useful results.

You can reach this page by clicking the  Advanced Search link on search bar.

You can do a lot more with Toronto.NET search than just typing in search terms. With Advanced Search, you can search only for pages:

  • that contain ALL the words you type in on the one web page 
  • that contain the exact phrase you type in on the web page 
  • that contain at least one of the words you type in
  • that contain ALL the words you type in on the one web site 
  • that have been updated within a certain period of time
  • within a certain domain, or website
  • within a site which contact info is located in specified city
  • within a site which contact info address looks like specified
  • within a site which contact info postal code looks like specified
  • within a site which contact info phone looks like specified

You can also improve your searches by adding [operators] to your search terms in the Toronto.NET search box, or selecting them from the Advanced Search page.


Automatic [AND] search

By default, Toronto.NET only returns pages that include all of your search terms. There is no need to include [AND] between terms. 

For example, to plan to by a hockey tickets, simply type hockey tickets.


[OR] search

To find pages that include either of two search terms, add an uppercase OR between the terms.

For example, here's how to search for hockey or baseball:

 

Extended [EXT] search

To find results having different words on different pages within one web site, add an uppercase EXT between the terms. This search can be useful when AND search produced no results, which means that all searched words do not occur on one web page together. EXT search will find websites where your search terms located on different pages.

For example, here's how to search for websites containing terms  "Leather Sofa" and Dundas anywhere within a site (these words do not occur together in one article but occur in different pages)

 
If you search for words (not complex expressions) within web site, you may use brackets to produce the same result. For example, here's how to search for websites containing terms  Esposito and 1897 anywhere within a site (these words do not occur together in one article but occur in different pages)
