Request For Proposals 2013 – 2014

Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training is accepting applications  from individuals and organizations for Employment and Training funding  for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

 We are seeking applications for the following priorities:

1. Demand Driven Skilled Trades and Construction

 2. Community Service and Private Sector Organizations

 3. Youth Employment and Leadership

 4. Community Capacity Building – Management Training

 5. Economic Development – Self Employment

6. Literacy, Numeracy and Basic Skills

  Applications for the First round of proposals must be  received on or before: January 15, 2013 at 12:00p.m.

 All applications after this date will be considered on a first come,  first serve basis.

Employment Opportunity Project Officer Full Time (35/hrs per week)

Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment & Training, located in Toronto, is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual for “Project Officer”.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the candidate’s responsibilities will include the following:

Duties:

• Work as part of team working towards achieving organizational and community employment and training goals

• Maintain community and client based employment and training projects

• Monitor on-going projects

• On site monitors of all projects

• Assist / advise applicants with regards to proposal development

• Assist with the call for proposal process

• Review, Prepare Executive Summaries, Present submitted funding requests to the Board of Directors for consideration

• Assist approved sponsors with the administration of their projects

• Work as a team member within the projects department and the employment counselling department

• Preparation of quarterly reports

• Project Evaluation • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

• A relevant post secondary degree, or equivalent related experience;

• Excellent oral and written communications skills

• Demonstrated competence in working with figures

• Knowledge of employment and training programs an asset

• Ability to organize and prioritise work activities

• Ability to act with authority, intervening when required with respect

• Must work well under pressure

• Must be able to work within, and contribute to a team environment

• Knowledge of and experience working with the aboriginal community

• Strong competence with regards to most office computer applications

• Prior proposal writing experience an asset

• Able to respect and maintain confidentiality

LEE AWARDS

BURSARY PROGRAM FOR CANADIAN ABORIGINAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Miziwe Biik is offering Bursaries to Toronto Aboriginal high school students in Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12.

Bursaries will range from $150 to $500.

To qualify you must:

• Be of Canadian Aboriginal ancestry – First Nations, Status, Non-Status Métis or Inuit

• Be attending a high school study program

• Be living in the City of Toronto
Application review and evaluation:

• All applications will be assessed by a Review Panel.

• Evaluations will be based on a combination of academic merit and community involvement.

Second Career Info Session: March

In addition clients will learn about the application process, participant criteria and they will receive a Q & A document to take away.

Employment Counsellor

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Consistently manage an ongoing caseload of up to 100 clients

• Assist unemployed Aboriginal clients in the GTA to obtain employment

• Conduct intake interviews to identify client needs relevant to Employment Ontario and Miziwe Biik services

• Provide employment counselling using the Common Assessment Process

• Work with each active job ready client to develop a return-to-work action plan

• Identify barriers to employment and assist clients to develop job readiness skills and job search strategies through in-house Pre-Employment Skills Development Programs and Employment Ontario workshops

• Create and manage and email database to advise clients of current employment opportunities, on-the-job training projects and  skills based training programs within the GTA

• Identify client suitability for Targeted Wage Subsidy and Job Creation Programs

• Assist clients with the application process for obtaining Band Funding for Academic purposes

• Identify opportunities for cost sharing initiatives with other funding sources

• Responsible for timely accurate case management including inputting interventions, action plans, updating, closing clients files in EOS CAMS (Employment Ontario Case Management System)

• Responsible for ongoing follow-up with clients who are actively job searching and participating in skills based training programs

• Provide advocacy with regards to government support programs including Ontario Works, EI, ODSP, WSIB etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be Aboriginal, Inuit, Metis

Reliable, Dependable and Punctual in regards to attendance

• College Diploma or Certificate in Career Counselling Required – Must be able to present certification

• Able to consistently contribute towards department goals and objectives

• Must work well in a TEAM environment

• Knowledge of employers and grassroots agencies within the Aboriginal community

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Conflict Resolution skills

• Ability to work one-on-one with clients  who may or may not have barriers to employment

• Competent assessing clients job readiness including providing assistance with cover letter writing, resume development job search techniques and interview skills

• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office 2007 and experience using electronic case management systems

• Detail Oriented with regards to case management including maintaining accurate client files

• Previous employment counselling experience an asset .

• Facilitation and experience developing and delivering employment related workshops

• Ability to respect confidentiality
